Roger Marie Leon Joseph Bricoux was born on 1 June 1891 in Cosne-sur-Loire, Burgundy, France. He was raised in Monaco, where his father, Leon Bricoux, worked as a horn player at the Casino de Monte Carlo.
Roger received a Catholic education in Monaco and Italy and later attended the prestigious Accademia Filarmonica di Bologna, where he excelled in cello studies.
After further studies at the Conservatoire de Paris, Bricoux began a musical career that included performances in England and France. He worked with the Grand Central Hotel orchestra in Leeds and performed in Lille, playing in venues like the Cecil Bar. Known for his jovial nature and sensitivity, he maintained close ties with his family.
Before joining the Titanic, he lived at 5 Place du Lion d'Or, Lille, France. He and Pianist Theodore Brailey had served on the Cunard steamer Carpathia before joining the White Star Line.
All of the musicians lost their lives in the sinking.
There is a claim that Bricoux fathered a daughter, Laura Kelsall, with an Englishwoman named Adelaide Kelsall, but this remains speculative. The only evidence is Adelaide's claim that the father was a cellist about to join the Titanic.
