"Mrs. R. D. Shymer of New York" who was aboard the Lusitania when it went down in 1915 was a close cousin. Her maiden name was Anne C. Justice. She was born 30 May 1873 in Logansport, Cass County, Indiana. Her father, James Monroe Justice (1838-1889), was a successful attorney. My great...
Reading the Titanic book: 'The R.M.S. Titanic and Washington: One Hundred Years'. It says the following:
'The Titanic subpoena information being sent to Britain by way of the Lusitania in 1915 was lost when the Lusitania was sunk during the war with Germany. This would result in the delay...
Hi all, I was interested to discover the better first class cabins of Lusitania and Mauritania were equipped with telephones. Was this feature still in use when the Lusitania sunk? Also I'm also interested to know why White star didn't equip Olympic and Titanic with a telephone system.
I cannot recall if this scenario has been discussed before in this forum though I remember such a discussion years ago.......perhaps in another forum.
Let us imagine outcomes in hypothetical situations where the Titanic and Lusitania had remained exactly as they were at the time of each...
I know that titanic sank after midnight, many first and second class passengers lived higher than steerage, and that titanic broke apart and sank for the trapped victims aboard who froze from hypothermia or drowned. Lusitania sank in less than 18 minutes in the afternoon of 1915 during ww1...

Hi
As the title asks, can anyone tell me the type of fabric used on Lusitania's class 1st class dining chairs? I thought at first it may be velvet, but velvet is not a practical fabric to use in a dining area.
Cheers
Jason

We are just a month from the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Lusitania. In some ways, the event was even more tragic than that of the Titanic because of the short timescale of the sinking and eventual chaos and panic that ensued.
They need to make a good feature film about the final...
