Hi all. It's been a while since I've posted or asked anything... I have question regarding the tops of the masts on Olympic family of ships. Was there any type of crowning on top, ie: a ball, spire, or other adornment? I can't seem to find any info on that... trying to replicate the tops of the...
Was it the one on the bridge, the one at the base of the mast, or the one in the crow's nest?
I need some help with this, do any of you here know which one of Titanic's bells were rung at every half-hour?
This might serm a little offf topic, but does anyone know what 'topped off ' or 'capped' the foremast and mainmast? As far as I can see, it might have been a domed disc of sorts, but was it steel or wooden?
Thank you
So I was watching the first few minutes of the "1912 History" version of Cameron's "Titanic", doing what I usually do (scrutinizing details)...blissful in the absence of Jack and Rose... and I noticed a new detail I had never been aware of...
In the scene where Lowe is handing Captain Smith a...
Hello, I was wondering at what stage during the Titanics sinking did the four Marconi lines running between the ships masts snap? They obviously must have been broken after the hull snapped in half but could Funnels 1 and 2 rolling off or the bow mast getting fully submerged have severed them...
Hello,
Got to wonder how many were considered before they chosed 2,I heard 1 and some concept of 3 funnel itanic got between 3 and 4 mast, why? is it because it was like that on previous white star line ship?
Thanks for your answer!
So, I own some RMS Titanic Inc blueprints and they say a crane (Or derrick?) connected to the back of the mast. Could this crane fold into the mast? Does it even exist?
Was the aftermost of the two masts on the titanic called in nautical terms the "mainmast" or "aftermast"?
Also, was it a thin wire that was strung between the two masts, or a thick cable? And the masts were there in part so a wire aireal could be rigged up for the Marconi shack, correct?
Hi all,
I am pleased to inform you that I find with my brother's lamp mast behind the Titanic / Olympic.
Here is the proof of this lamp was back at the wreckage that was exposed in a museum.
His comments and welcome.
Best regards.

Question for the Naval Experts.:
Information or where to go for information on "Cage Masts" seen in pictures of old battleships.:
There seem to be platforms and/or some sort of bridge or conn platform -open or closed - at the top or at various levels of the "cage masts."
How were these...
I'm in the middle of a debate with someone. He claims that the forward mast slowly collapsed while the ship was on the bottom. While I believe it fell aft on the ships descent. What are your opinions?
It didn't occur to me until I started looking at old photos of the Californian that I realised I didn't know which masts had lights on them. I had always assumed that masts 1 and 4 had the lights on. but a friend suggests 1 and 2 (looking from the bow to the stern). Who is right?
Best wishes...
How exactly did the Marconi wires attached to the masts operate?
I know that there where 4 parallel wires and they also connected to the Marconi room.
Also near to the third funnel, there appears to be a thicker lines of the arial (for example in ken marschall paintings)?
How did the airal...
Just wanted to clear something up here. How is it that Ken Marshall adds the American Stars and Stripes to the top of the foremast on the Titanic in his paintings? Despite the fact that she was registered as a British ship and crewed by a British crew, with the exception of some foreigners...
