special effects

This is my favorite scene/special effect from the film. It's especially more effective if you slow it down. I just love all the little details such as the lifejacket on the table (as it slides past the camera) and the paper fluttering down from above.

How did they make the special effects on those two movies, i heard it included dry ice and wind up lifeboats, does anyone know ?
