In looking at an old Commutator, I saw a letter written to the editor from survivor Amy McMicken. Anyone know where she is on the pax list? thanks. Dennis
Hi Dennis,
She wasn't actually a survivor, but was the widow of steward Alfred Arthur McMicken and I think had an honorary membership in THS back in the 1960's. Her husband was born October 20, 1888 and was one of the surviving crewmen.
My Dad was the nephew of Amy and Arthur. Amy was the sister of my grandfather. My dad told me tales of visits to East Prescott Road when he was younger. My maiden name was Stant
I seem to recall reading that McMicken said in a press interview after the disaster that Captain Smith was seen (he did not say by whom) struggling in the water in "oilskins". That seems extremely unlikely; not sure if he even had a set of oilskins and even if he had, I doubt if the old Captain would have removed his uniform to get into the wetsuit.
