Most of the leading characters were fictional.... The Sturges family, Gifford Rogers, etc.

1997 " Titanic":
Rose was a fictional character, too ! LOL

1953 "A Night To Remember":
However, I understand that many of the characters were based on real persons, or composites of several real persons. Especially Lightoller.
