I've been trying to figure out the size of chain links for the bower anchor's.
In Titanic - The Ship Magnificent, Vol. 1 p460 there's a drawing of the stud link sections indicating the very last link is 36" (91.4cm) long and the one after that is 33" (83,8cm). It is okay the last some links that was called "the attachment" on the drawings are made of larger links. It is clearly visible on the anchor raise image of the Browne album the last links are much bigger.
But how long are the rest of the links?
On p467 there's an image of the stud links where their relative sizes to the men standing next to it is notable. 36" or 91 cm seems to be legit.
However taking the Browne image and making an approximate measurement, the general links seem to be around 16-17" or 45 cm in length. See the image and drawing below.
Ship Magn. on p460 the drawing gives a thickness of 5,5" for the 33" long stud link at the end. On p459 at lower right the text states: "They [the bower anchors] weighed just over 7 and 3/4 tons apiece and were each attached to 3 and 3/8 in-diameter stud-link chains of 165 fathoms..."
So those chains are 3 and 3/8 inches (8,57 cm) and the larger 33" link is 5 and 1/2 inches (13,97 cm). A proportional scale down by a factor of 0,61 (8,57/13,97) gives a length of 51,4 cm.
So how long are the links?
Do you have any resources I haven't seen yet?
