Mast Caps

This might serm a little offf topic, but does anyone know what 'topped off ' or 'capped' the foremast and mainmast? As far as I can see, it might have been a domed disc of sorts, but was it steel or wooden?

The masts were made of steel, except for a 15 foot teak section at the top of each mast.

Thank you... i already knew the top 15 feet were made of teak but can't conceive of the 'cap' being of wood... perhaps a steel cap?

This is what the top looks like. The "cap" is most likely teak. The whole mast was painted the color "dark mast," so there are no color disturbances.

Having had time to refer to my copy of TTTSM I can tell you that the wooden mast tops were surmounted by centrally placed metal lightning rods (conductors) with wiring running down to the metal part of the lower mast. There was no 'cap' as such.

The “cap” that is referred to is called a “truck”. It usually has two sheaves in it for flag halyards.
