News from 1932: Joint ownership of Majestic II and Berengaria

The Times, 1 April 1932

THE MAJESTIC AND BERENGARIA
---
Included in the list of vessels owned by the Cunard Steam Ship Company
which is attached to the present annual report is the name of the
Majestic. The gross tonnage of the liner is 56,621, but it is shown that
the Cunard own 32/64ths, or 28,310 tons.

This entry is countered this year by the inclusion of the tonnage of
the Berengaria as 26,113, being 32/64ths of 52,226 tons. In previous
lists of the fleet the whole of the gross tonnage of the Berengaria has
been included.

The explanation of the change is that after the War the Cunard and White
Star companies secured a half-interest in each ship. This joint financial
investment, however, has had no effect on the independent working of the
vessels by each company.
