News from 1932 Trant Named White Star Commodore

The Times (London), 5 August 1932

COMMODORE OF WHITE STAR FLEET
---
CAPT. E. L. TRANT'S NEW POST
---
Captain E. L. Trant, of Liverpool, commander of the White Star liner
Majestic, has been appointed commodore of the White Star fleet. He
entered the company's service in 1898 as junior officer, attaining the
rank of a chief officer in 1910 while in the Australian passenger
service.

Captain Trant has commanded in turn all the giant liners of the White
Star Atlantic service, and in December last was appointed commander of
the Majestic. From November, 1914, until January, 1919, he served with
the Royal Navy. His brother, Captain A. W. G. Trant, is commander of
the Leyland liner Devonian. The two brothers had a romantic reunion in
1928. They had followed the sea since the days of their youth without
once seeing each other, though they had frequently kept in touch by
wireless when their ships were passing in the Atlantic. In January,
1928, their ships docked in adjacent berths, and they met for the first
time in 23 years.
