The House of Velvet and Glass (New Historical Fiction)

Hi all,

I'd like to share a bit the new novel by Katherine Howe, called The House of Velvet and Glass. Katherine is the author of The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane, which was a New York Times bestseller in 2009. Howe is known both for attention to historical detail and for compelling and mysterious stories.

Her new novel takes place in Boston in 1915, and follows a protagonist who lost her mother and sister on the Titanic. Sibyll, the protagonist, turns to mysticism and the occult while dealing with this loss, as did many Americans at the time of the Titanic and through the years of WW1. Flashing between Boston and the Titanic itself as well as other exotic scenes, this is an enchanting work of historical fiction that should appeal to those with an interest in the Titanic and its aftermath and this era of history in general.

You can read the Prologue and First Chapter of the book for free on Scribd - you don't need to create an account or anything to read the chapters: The House of Velvet and Glass by Katherine Howe
