Titanic cookery book & John Law Hume biography

Yvonne Hume is the great niece of Titanic bandsman John Law Hume.

She has written two books on the Titanic. The first is RMS Titanic ‘dinner is served’; in it Yvonne has recreated many of the menus that were served onboard, laid out in an easy to follow format for the more novice cooks to follow. Each accompanied by a full colour photograph. There is information on the amount of food and drink needed to satisfy the needs of passengers as well as a biography of Chef Pierre Rousseau. There are also hints and tips on how to host a dinner party as well as napkin folding.

Since being published on 15th April 2010 it has proved a popular choice amongst enthusiasts.

The second book, due for publication in April 2011 is a full biography of John Law Hume, entitled RMS Titanic ‘The First Violin’. This book covers John’s musical roots through his schooling, early appearances in his native Dumfries then on to the first ships he played on and how he became to be on the Titanic. The First Violin is highly illustrated with never before published family photographs along with vintage photographs of the houses and town where he grew up. There is a fascinating love story which ends with a sensational court case after John’s death. In writing this book Yvonne has drawn on family papers and stories told by close family members.

There is a short foreword by the late Millvina Dean
