So I've actually gone up to Whitefish Point several times with family and as I'm sure many of you know, right off the coast is where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. There's also a sort of coast guard system there, however, they aren't the ones that responded to Captain Cooper's calls or so I've been told.
(I actually found the call in case anybody was curious!)
I've been told that this was because WhiteFish Point's Radio was out of commission at the time (I wouldn't be surprised with a storm like that...), but I don't know for certain. I'd love it if a few of you guys might discuss this with me!
