Not many of Titanic's 'black gang' are remembered in the towns in which they once lived, but residents of West End on the outskirts of Southampton now have good reason to know the name of greaser
Jim Jukes.
For several years there has been a memorial in the Heritage Centre, but now the local History Society has worked with the District Council to ensure that Jim's name will once again become familiar in the streets around Moorgreen Road, where he once lived at Camlens House.
Not far from Jim's old address is a new residential development, and the service road which gives access has been named 'Jukes Walk'. Jim's great niece Gillian Holloway was present at the unveiling of the nameplate, which gives details of the Titanic connection.
