Woman Charged

Eastbourne Magistrates remanded in custody for a week Constance Nelson (48) whose address was given as Spencer Road, Eastbourne, who was charged with feloniously and maliciously sending to Elsie Bowerman a certain letter containing a threat to kill and murder a member the staff of Wycombe Abbey School, High Wycombe, Bucks, on April 25.

The Chief Constable, Mr W. H. Smith, asking for a remand, said the Director of Public Prosecutions had been communicated with and would probably represented.

Detective-Inspector Sawkins said that with a policewoman he saw Mrs Nelson at Spencer Court and read a warrant for her arrest. She replied—"That was more or less a draft as they well knew. I stick to everything I wrote to the President. I have no revolvers here, but I will not tell you where they are. I have one dum-dum bullet in the flat."

Inspector Sawkins added—"She then produced a Ist [sic] bearing the names and addresses of a number of people and having crosses against some of the names." She said —"These are the persons I sent the letters to." The list included the name of Miss Elsie Bowerman, Clarendon Road, London, but there was no cross against her name. She also produced two typewritten letters.

The Clerk - In these letters it is alleged there are threats to kill and murder ?—Yes.
