Can't Pay for Her Gowns

Mrs. Martin Says She Has No Cash to Meet a Bill.

Mrs. Estelle Martin, wife of John A. D. Martin, a real estate dealer, was examined yesterday In supplementary proceedings before Justice Green as to her ability to satisfy a Judgment for $60 obtained against her by Jeanette Brown, a dressmaker. Mrs. Martin said she had not been living with her husband since June last, though there had been no legal separation. But she considered him liable for her support. Including such bills for necessities, like clothes, as she felt Inclined to run up.

She denied having any fixed income or owning any property or Jewelry save a pair of gold sleeve links which were presented to her by a friend and a small gold tie pin. Her housekeeping expenses of about $70 a month. Including the wages of a nursemaid for her 2-year-old daughter, she said, came out of the occasional allowances made by her father, but she denied that she had any surplus income or any bank account, from which to meet the dressmaker's judgment.  Her examination was adjourned till May 13.
