Mrs Emma Hoyt (Carpathia passenger) née Ford, was born in Clyde, New York on 8 December 1856. She was the daughter Nathan Ford (of whom little is known) and Jane Hull (b. circa 1835), a dressmaker and native of Connecticut. 

An only child, around 1875 Emma married Albany-born Lucius Benjamin Hoyt, an office clerk, accountant and an active and staunch Republican and onetime supervisor of Albany’s fourteenth ward and election commissioner. The couple had no children and by 1910 were living at 233 Hamilton Street in Albany. Records show that they made frequent trips across the Atlantic and in April 1912 were passengers aboard the Carpathia.

Widowed in January 1916, Mrs Hoyt never remarried but continued to travel back and forth across the Atlantic and remained active in her local community, including with the local Republican Party. She died on 16 October 1941 and was buried in Albany Rural Cemetery.
