Aos seis dias do mez d'Agosto do anno de mil oito centos e noventa, nesta Egreja parochial de Espírito Sancto da vila da Calheta, Concelho do mesmo nome, Diocese do Funchal, baptizei solemnemente e puz os sanctos óleos a um indivíduo do sexo masculino a quem dei o nome de Jozé, que nasceu nesta freguezia às sete horas da noute do dia vinte sete de Julho próximo findo, filho legítimo (primeiro deste nome) de António Gomes Jardim e de Maria Netto, agricultores, naturaes desta freguezia, nella recebidos e parochianos, moradores no Lombo das Laranjeiras, netto paterno de Manoel Gomes e de Maria Rodrigues Jardim, e materno de Jacob da Silva e de Maria Rodrigues Netto. Foi Padrinho Francisco Rodrigues Pereira, solteiro, agricultor, morador no Lombo do Sallão, desta freguezia, e Madrinha Nossa Senhora, tocando com a corôa respectiva António de Freitas, cazado, agricultor nesta freguezia, os quais sei serem os próprios. E para constar lavrei em duplicado este assento que depois de ser lido e conferido perante o Padrinho commigo o não assignou por não saber escrever. Era ut supra. On the sixth of August of the year one thousand eight hundred and ninety, in this church of Espírito Sancto of Calheta, County of Calheta, Diocese of Funchal, I have solemnly baptised and pour the holy oils on an individual of the male gender who I have christened as Jozé, who was born in this village at seven p.m. of the twenty seventh day of July last, legitimate son (first of his name) of António Gomes Jardim and Maria Netto, agricultural labourers, born in this village, where they were married and are parishioners, resident at Lombo das Laranjeiras, grandson on his father's side of Manoel Gomes and Maria Rodrigues Jardim, and on his mother's side of Jacob da Silva and Maria Rodrigues Netto. The Godfather was Francisco Rodrigues Pereira, single, agricultural labourer, resident at Lombo do Salão, and the Godmother was Our Lady, whose Crown was touched by António de Freitas, married, agricultural labourer in this village, both of whom are of my personal acquaintance. And for the record I executed this certificate in duplicate which, after being read and confirmed in the presence of the Godparent, was signed by me but not by the Godfather, who cannot write.
