Does anyone know of any other websites that feature stuff about 2nd Wireless Operator Bride? I've been very interested in him as of late, and want to find out all that I can...

Hi, I'm living in Australia...and my grandfather was Harry Bryde who always told us he was on the titanic...and i've only recently found out another Harold Bride was also known to be the assistant radio operator. My grandfather came to Australia just after the Titanic sinking..and married in 1919. He was born October 1890 in Essex...and I have examined newspaper photographs along with his wedding photo..and it looks to be the same person..as well as an uncanny family resemblance. I do have his signature and would love for anyone who has a list of signatures from those who travelled on the ship..where maybe i could compare that. He is still survived by his 7 children all who live in Australia...I would also like to hear from any relative of the other Harold Bride..where we can compare notes. I would love this riddle sorted out one way or another..so is there anyone out there who could help in any way??

I truly hate to be the one to break the bad news, but the Harold Sydney Bride from the Titanic was born on January 11, 1890, in Nunhead, South London. He had three children, and after the Titanic sinking moved to Scotland where he worked as a salesman until his death in 1956.

One way we could determine if they are one and the same: Laura, what was your grandmother's name? The Harold Bride from the Titanic was also married in 1919.

I went through something almost identical to your situation this year. For years, I thought my great-uncle William Dye and my great-aunt Anne Mary Dye had been onboard the Titanic in second-class. Not long after joining this site, I soon discovered otherwise. However, in researching them I learned alot about two of my family members that I did not know, so I basically didn't leave empty-handed.

Thanks for your reply..but i feel they are not the same person..but somehow identities have become confused somehow. My grandmother's name was Dora Ivy Stella Fielding who also emigrated with her parents from England. My grandfather I am sure he was on the Titanic...from stories he used to tell us....even to the music played in the final moments being different to common knowledge at that time...and he would break into tears at the sound of it ever since. I just wish there was some signature check or somehow a specialist could identify his wedding photo with that of the photos taken of the tragedy...we did on overhead projectors..and it seemed to line up very well...as he had very distinctive ears and hair line also matched....
 
This may be hard to take, but your grandfather was not on the Titanic. Harold Bride's wife and your grandmother are not the same person. I hate to be blunt about it, but it appears he was another "supposed" survivor, they come a dime a dozen.

I was wondering if Bride, wireless operator, ever fully recovered from his injuires?
if he had lasting problems from that night in that lifeboat?
i read his bio and it said that he continued working wireless. so he must have recovered somewhat.

Hello Wendi,

As far as I know, he did recover physically. His legs were badly frozen, and he was carried aboard the Carpathia by several crewmen.

As far as continuing to work as a wireless operator, he must have been doing pretty well, as he also worked the Carpathia's key while onboard.
