2019 National Geographic dive

Hi, New here.

Has there been any word on this? I have heard of extensive sub damage (collisions and looting) but I have not seen any photographic evidence. Fore example Titanic's name bring removed from the bow. I was hoping this would be available by now.

Hi Jim, welcome.

Sadly, this expedition and the resulting documentary was a huge disappointment. Conditions during the dives were horrible and as such, they procured very little imagery. See below for ALL seven minutes of footage they released:

Regarding the sub bumping into the wreck, I think that was blown way out of proportion and wouldn't be surprised if past expeditions have bumped into the wreck. I believe Cameron even lost one of the little film robots inside the wreck.

The stern I believe has collapsed but from what can be gleaned, it doesn't seem like the bow has suffered too much deterioration relative to what others forecasted.

We await next years dives with OceanGate to see if they can procure better footage and data about the wreck.

Thank you Samson. That's a shame but you are right, we can hope for the next dives to be more fruitful.

Jim

Definitely a shame considering they had at their disposal what is, I believe, the most advanced civilian submarine on the plant.

Most definitely no. There is clear imagery and video footage of the bow and the part which would have had the name cut into the plating is still intact.

From what I understand, the name has since faded so it's no longer evident in the plating, sadly. Although I do remember seeing images shared by Parks Stephenson which did show, very faintly, the lettering. I believe you can find it on his Facebook page if you search through his photos.

I came across this rendering in a CNN article from last year about the 2019 expedition, seemingly depicting the collapse of the bridge/telemotor area. Is this based on data from the most recent expedition or simply an inaccurate depiction? If its true it seems odd that media reports center more on the missing Captains bath than something like this.
