Does anyone know why some of the hull balcony cabins above the Britannia Restaurant have vertical posts in the middle of them? These run all three decks of the hull balcony cabins and I noticed that this is the only place on the ship that these exist. See the photo.

My first thought is that they are to do with lowering the life rafts. Perhaps to ensure that they can’t get hung up especially during a list. Likewise with the decks below should their windows be damaged.

Harland and Wolfe made a bid to build the ship. Did they draft any drawings of the ship looking different then the final result?

Could someone tell me what are those twin white things sticking out of the superstructure aft are for. Go to the posted picture above, they are very prominant. Just what are they? Many thanks for answer in advance.

If you're talking about the two globe shaped objects, those would be antenneas for satellite communications. I noted four of those in the photo. If you're referring to the two structures all the way aft, they appear to be exhaust stacks for the diesel generators.

I believe I read somewhere that the twin aft exhaust stacks were an homage to the France.

And that's probably the only real memorial the France/Norway will ever have. Better then nothing I suppose.

Curved bridge screen w/ black bars - Queen Mary
Whaleback breakwater - Normandie
Funnel - QE2
Bow - QE2
