Lusitania Wreck

Why is the Lusitania Wreck in such bad condition?
Is it due to the explotion causing her to sink or the fact that she hit the bottom before completely sunk or is it the passing of time that is responsible.

There are many reasons, Eric Sauder, Lusitania researcher extrordinaire would be the best man to tell you - but The British Admiralty using the wreck as target practise wouldn't have done much to help!

As I understand it, the Lusitania's wreck was used as a target for anti-submarine traing during the war. The unexploded depth charges around the wreck make diving around there a chancy proposition.

Cordially,
Michael H. Standart

I read somewhere in a book or website that if a ship sinks in shallow water it isn normally in good condition ie Britannic, but not so for Lusitania.

Nigel
