Pelican Island bridge disaster

The bridge connecting Pelican Island to the mainland in Galveston TX has been struck by a barge carrying oil. The barge was being towed by a tug, but the cable broke.
Up to 2,000 gallons of oil were spilled. It's reported that about 500 gallons have been recovered. There were no casualties. So far, there appears to be little harm to wildlife.
The main damage to be bridge is the destruction of a railway line. Traffic over the roadway is severely limited, causing great inconvenience to residents on Pelican Island and to workers in various industries and a branch of a university. The bridge was built in 1960 and is overdue for replacement.
