Back in the late 1970's I did business with a company in San Rafael, California called Automatic Tube Company that specialized in designing and installing the systems you are talking about. They also had an office in nearby Novato, Calif. Hospitals were some of their biggest customers, and also banks. I still see a number of pneumatic systems at banks that have drive-through banking.
I tried a web search on Automatic Tube, but found nothing. I'll be up in Northern California again next week and will make a point to see if they are still around.
