Thicker planks on Olympic class forecastles

On the Olympic class forecastles the planking was
5" x 3" pitch pine with 10" x 4" planks being placed under the anchor chain tracks, windlasses and back to
the #1 hatch. The outline of this wider thicker planking is shown on the detailed deck plan of Olympic found in
several popular references. Here is my question:
Did the thicker planking stand higher than the thinner or were the edges beveled so that they were flush.
I have photo evidence which shows the thicker planking raised edge. I also have photos which are taken from farther away under different lighting conditions in which the transition can't be seen.
Lusitania had the thicker planking unbeveled. Two of the best professional models of Titanic have the planking also unbeveled.
Any evidence or opinions out there?
