Titanic 1997 DVD

Anyone know of or heard rumors about a new, more definitive DVD of Titanic 1997? Obviously, there won't be a director's cut, since the original is the director's cut, but I've seen some of the deleted scenes that add more historical texture, and I'd love to see some more of those, or some docs on the making of the movie or something. I just can't believe they haven't done something bigger. I'd certainly pay.
Best,
BR

Rumours...yes....always lots of rumours. Something actually on the shelves at the vidio stores...nope. I'd be willing to buy something with all the features you mentioned and more. The problem is that the people who own the rights to the film and everything related to it may be of the contrary opinion based on market studies which tell them it would be a bad bet.

If such is the case, don't count on seeing anything new sometime soon.

Michael,

A simple marking principle: If those who own copyrights think it's going to make money (and if it's already proven to have made money), they will put it out. That's why they're in business - to make money. I never saw any Titanic product not make money. This is especially true in recent times, since Titanic has been revived. I wouldn't be so surely negative on that. Wait for it....

Perhaps, but as I noted once, fashions tend to be rather fickle. I'm sure if the market studies supported the proposition that a new release of Titanic would rake in the bucks, the owners would already be doing it. It may well be in the works anyway, but for a much better time.

There are now some early hints flying about that, finally, a multi-disc special edition of the film is somewhere in the early stages of planning. Some places are even saying that it will be a 4-disc set! Well, we'll see. Possibly for release in 2005, but don't count on it.

Someone -- it may have been on this site -- put me onto "DVD Angle," a site that tracks upcoming special edition releases. Don't yet know how accurate they are. For instance, they say "Titanic SE" is due in "Late 2004," but that's exactly where we are now -- and I still haven't heard a peep from my usual sources. Anyway, if you'd like to take a look, here's where you can find them:
