The Southampton police have in custody a dock labourer named William Mintram on a charge of killing his wife. The alleged crime took place on Saturday at midnight in Winton - street, a low quarter of the town where, it is said, Mintram and his wife quarrelled, and that in the course of the dispute he picked up a knife and stabbed the woman, inflicting injuries which resulted fatally shortly afterwards. At the time of the tragedy the children were in bed, and hearing the altercation, came downstairs and found their father kneeling beside the woman. A neighbour communicated with the police, and Mintram was arrested in his own house. Before being taken into custody the accused affectionately kissed his children.
