Shortly before midnight on Saturday a dock labourer named William Mintram, living at Southampton, went home the worse for drink, and a quarrel ensued between him and his wife, in which, it is said, he picked up a bread knife and stabbed her three times. The children, the eldest of whom is 15, hearing screams, rushed downstairs and found their father praying over the body of their mother.
