Misery at Home (Nędza w domu)

Judge supports a woman who lost her husband in the "Titanic" catastrophe.

In the house, at 1330 Polk street misery left nothing. Mother with five children to be thrown out of her house, deprived of the roof over her head because she can not pay the rent.

A woman lives there. (Mrs) Aaron Miller [sic], whose husband went to the seabed together with the Titanic.

The landlord of the home in which Mrs Miller [sic] lived, went to Judge Sabath with a request that a woman be thrown out on the street.

Judge Sabath, from his own pocket, gave the unfortunate widow of $25 to pay for rent and maintenance and ordered her to go home calmly.

In her apartment, she had only one chair, table and one bed. To feed herself and her five children, she was forced to sell everything.

This case was taken up by Mayor Harrison and the woman will receive support from the city.
