Financier Refuses to Discuss Business or Politics

J. Pierpont Morgan returned yesterday on the White Star liner Olympic
from his seven months' stay abroad. He was met at Quarantine by his
son, J. P. Morgan, Jr., who had been there all night on the Corsair
waiting for his father to arrive. After the ship had been cleared by
Health Officer O'Connell and the customs officials had gone on board,
Mr. Morgan left the Corsair and went to his father's suite on the
Olympic, and afterward breakfasted with him at a small table in the
corner of the dining saloon.

As the Olympic was proceeding up the harbor to her pier the financier
came out on deck with his son. He wore a gray suit, panama hat, and
brown shoes, and appeared to have benefitted from his stay abroad. As
usual Mr. Morgan was met on deck by a solid phalanx of reporters and
photographers. He was smiling and chatting with his son when a reporter from a financial newspaper approached and asked if he would give an
interview.

The financier replied quickly and emphatically, "Not a word. Not a
word."

Then another reporter approached and asked if he would support the "Bull Moose" party.

"What's a Bull Moose?" he inquired. When it was explained that it meant Theodore Roosevelt's third party, Mr. Morgan retorted, "Well, what do I know about Roosevelt?"

Asked as to the probability of war between Germany and England, and
whether the Kaiser had given any information to him on that subject
when they lunched together at Kiel, Mr. Morgan only said that the German Emperor did not give out information for publication.

On arrival of the Olympic at her pier Mr. Morgan was met by two of his
partners, Henry P. Davison and Charles Steele, and his son-in-law, W.
Pierson Hamilton, with several of his grandchildren. They had been on
the Corsair with J. P. Morgan, Jr., the night before.

The whole party went away on the Corsair, and at 4 o'clock in the
afternoon Mr. Morgan invited his partners to meet him at his house on
Madison Avenue for a business consultation.
