May 14th 1912 - Just 29 days after the sinking of the Titanic, the first film about the disaster is released. Starring an actual Titanic survivor, first class passenger Dorothy Gibson who was rescued in Lifeboat 7, Saved From the Titanic opens to theatres in the United States and quickly becomes popular with both critics and audiences. To add to the production's authenticity, Gibson wears the same clothing she did on the night of the sinking. (Poster from Moving Picture World, May 11th 1912.
