Major Gerard Thomas Noel was born in Exton, Rultand, England on 13 May 1856, the son of Henry Lewis Noel and Mary Elizabeth Noel. He was the grandson of Charles Noel, 1st Earl of Gainsborough.
He married Edith Mary Bryon (-1917) at St George's Hanover Square, London, on 19 January 1888 they had four children.
He served in the Army attaining the rank of Major. After he retired he became a Justice of the Peace in Devon.
He and his son 'Bobs' boarded the Titanic at Southampton. They disembarked with their bicycles at Cherbourg, disembarking onto the tender Traffic.
Between 1912 and 1913 he carried on quite a lengthy correspondence with Fr Browne SJ, the Titanic photographer.
He died on 9 November 1941 leaving an estate valued at £20,445.
