Michael Flynn

Michael Flynn1 was born at 1 Marine Street in Belfast, Ireland on 21 September 1879. Hailing from a Roman Catholic family, he was the son of William Flynn, a dock labourer, and Hannah Magill. He was baptized in St Joseph’s Church on 24 September 1879.

Shortly after Michael’s birth he and his family moved to Glasgow, Scotland where they appear on the 1881 census. They later returned to Belfast where, on 1 October 1898 in St Peter’s Church, Michael married Sarah Smith (b. circa 1875). By 1911 the couple had four surviving children from a total of seven and were living at 9 York Lane in Belfast, Michael being described as a carter.

Flynn’s ship prior to Titanic had been the Lord Dufferin. He joined the Titanic at Belfast for the delivery trip to Southampton where he then disembarked.

Flynn remained at sea for a while but his later career remains unclear.

A resident of Belfast for the rest of his life, Michael Flynn passed away on 6 September 1942.
