Mr Richard McGreevy1 was born at 8 Trafalgar Street in Belfast, Ireland on 2 October 1886. Hailing from a Roman Catholic family, he was the son of James McGreevy, a mariner,

In Belfast’s St Joseph’s Church Richard was married to Mary Keenan (b. circa 1884) on 27 November 1904, his profession listed as sailor his address at the time being 43 Marine. The couple had two sons and one daughter by 1911 and the census that year shows them as residents of 52 New Dock Street in north Belfast.

McGreevy’s ship prior to Titanic had been the Olympic. He joined Titanic at Belfast for the delivery trip to Southampton where he then disembarked.

Although he escaped a brush with death aboard Titanic, Richard McGreevy had a short life and on 11 March 1913 he died from an intestinal ulcer aged just 26.
