Johann Markun

Mr Johann Markun1, 33, was a married man from Mittervellach, Austria-Hungary (now Srednja Bela, Slovenia) near Milje.

He boarded the Titanic at Cherbourg. Markun was probably the brother-in-law of Franz Karun2.

To reach his destination, New York, he bought his third-class ticket from the agent: Im Obersteg & Cie., Basel for 255 Swiss francs. (ticket number 349257, £7 17s 11d).

According to the White Star Passenger List of 9 May 1912 (Sheet F 2) he boarded at Cherbourg.

Markun died in the sinking. His body, if recovered, was never identified.

His widow in Mittervellach, Krainburg and five children, received £130 from the Titanic relief fund.

Johann Markun, 33, listed as 3rd Class passenger, lived in Austro-Hungarian Empire, not in Croatia. Place, called Milje is about 3 miles away from Kranj, 4th largest town in nowaday Republic of Slovenia, where I live and about 20 miles from Ljubljana, our capital, direction N-NW.
