Dave Bowen, of Treherbert, and Leslie Williams, of Tonypandy, two well-known Welsh professional boxers, who formerly were Freddie Welsh’s sparring partners, were among the passengers on the Titanic. Both were going America on a year’s contract made for them by Mr. Chas. Barnett, the sporting editor of the "Cardiff Evening Express,” the other party to the contract being Mr. Frank Torreyson, owner of racehorses and a match promoter, East Pittsburg. Bowen and Williams had intended to sail by the Lusitania on the 6th, but were unable to complete their preparations in time.
