Children on the Titanic

List of child passengers and crew on the Titanic?

128 children aged 14 or under were aboard the Titanic on her maiden voyage. There were 11 first class child passengers, 26 second class, 89 in third class and 2 child crew members. Three of the children disembarked at Cherbourg and one at Queenstown thereby avoiding the disaster.

There were not many organised activities for children on the Titanic or any dedicated play spaces. Children in First class could use the gymnasium at set times and some were seen playing in the Verandah cafe. A photograph of Douglas Spedden shows him playing spinning top with his father on deck. Wealthier families brough nannies and nursemaids to occupy their offspring.

When the collision occured the order was quickly given for women and children to be placed in the lifeboats, despite this 61 children died in the Titanic disaster: one first class child passenger, two second class, and an astonishing fifty-seven third class. Both child crew members were lost.

Artefacts belonging to children have been seen in the debris fields that surrounds the Titanic wreck, including the porcelain head of a girl's doll.

This page lists those aged 14 or under who were aboard the Titanic, the list includes 2 crew; it excludes several unborn babies, most of whom survived
