Raimondo Zammuto

RMS Carpathia Passenger

Mr Raimondo Zammuto was born in Aragona, Sicily, Italy on 1 July 1892. He was the son of Giuseppe Zammuto and Assunta Salamone.

In February 1909 Raimondo emigrated to the USA, headed to the home of his brother Francesco in Chicago; he made his home in Rockford, Illinois where he was employed in a knitting works alongside his elder brother Franceso and cousin Angelo Zammuto. 

Raimondo was travelling with his brother Franceso as third class passengers aboard the Carpathia when that ship rescued the survivors of the Titanic disaster. 

Raimondo returned to the USA in 1913 and became a US citizen in the 1940s. He worked as a butcher and was married to Christina Larosa (b. circa 1901, d. 1988); they had a son, Moses (b. 1927). 

Raimondo Zammuto died in Rockford on 21 January 1960 and is buried in St Mary and St James’ Cemetery in that city.
