Oceanic III Design

I calculated the actual hull speed of the vessel because Springsharp is incorrect. It simply square roots the waterline length and "forgets" to multiply 1.34 to account for wavelength. So the correct hull speed for Oceanic III is 1.34 * square root(1020) = 42.79 kts. I think that answers your question.

Hello. I collect information on the liner RMS Oceanic III 1928 White Star Line. I'm trying to figure out whether have the liner RMS Oceanic sisterships III? I'm trying to figure out the name and surname of the designer, who drafted the liner RMS Oceanic III, 1928? And I would like to look at projects of interiors of liner RMS Oceanic III, 1928. It is a pity that the liner RMS Oceanic III 1928 was never built! His building number 844. Help please I ask you very. Please who can you ask these questions? I hope for your understanding and for your reply. With Respect to Sergey Ionov

Hi Sergey.

I'm afraid that information about Oceanic is scant to say the least. As the project was cancelled after a year of practically no work being completed on her, Harland and Wolff retained her detailed plans for about ten years and then destroyed all but the most basic general arrangement plans as by that time her design would have been outdated. Apart from finding photographs of the interiors of Britannic III and Georgic II (White Star's final ships) we have little idea of how O3's interiors would have looked and we cannot even refer to the White Star archive as it is missing presumed destroyed when Trafalgar House took over Cunard.

Had Oceanic been built I am certain that a sister would have been proposed if not designed. If O3 had successfully entered service and not done "A Titanic" then the majority of the travelling public would have flocked to her and White Star's share price would have gone through the roof. They would then have been in the perfect position to either buy the half complete Hull 534 (Queen Mary) on Clydebank or merge with Cunard, most likely as the senior partner. It would have made financial sense to pay for the completion of Queen Mary rather than pay for the design and construction of another ship that would have taken a further four or five years to complete.

Tim Trower wrote a couple of detailed articles about Oceanic in the Titanic Historical Society's magazine a couple of years ago and these are available from their website.

Cheers, Rich.

Good afternoon. Thank you very much for your reply. And yet why, which was to destroy all the technical documentation concerning the liner RMMV Oceanic III? I can not understand! All the technical documentation concerning the project No. 844 should be retained. RMMV Oceanic III and RMS Colossic this would be masterpieces passenger shipbuilding! Floating Palaces. According to my information, a sistership RMMV Oceanic III was renamed RMS Colossic. The name was supposed to be new! Previously no liner White Star Line was not such a title. In addition the RMS Colossic should be turbohodom! Power of all his engines would be 200.000 horsepower! At the time the company Cunard Line had such an experiment on two of their ships: RMS Carmania and RMS Caronia. RMS Carmania was turbohodom, and RMS Caronia by steamship. RMMV Oceanic III was supposed to be diesel-èlektrohodom, and RMS Colossic turbohodom. All power to the engines and RMS Oceanic III RMMV Colossic was the same 200.000 horsepower. Thus likely both liner won prize of the blue riband. Please the RMMV Oceanic III how should have 12 decks? Or more? Or conversely less? And my second question should be on the Oceanic III Searchlights RMMV? And please name designers have developed, designed and propose this version liner? Look forward to your answers. With Respect to Sergey Ionov

Where did you find this, Sergey? I've done a bit of (although not much) research on Oceanic III, but don't think I have never come across any reference to a sister ship for her, let alone a name.

At the time the company Cunard Line had such an experiment on two of their ships: RMS Carmania and RMS Caronia.

Carmania (turbine) and Caronia (quadruple expansion) were quite old by the time Oceanic III was conceived; they entered service in 1905. White Star had done a similar experiment with Megantic (quadruple expansion) and Laurentic I (triple expansion/turbine) in 1909.

Hello. About sister RMMV Oceanic III, the RMS Colossic told me last year, the grandson of a designer with the shipyard HarlandWollf last year. He told me that RMS Colossic should be turbohodom! Steam turbine power RMS Colossic 200.000 horsepower. White Star Line would in any event, to win the Blue Ribbon of the Atlantic! With such superliners as and RMS Oceanic III RMMV Colossic company White Star Line won the Blue Ribbon of the Atlantic. With Respect to Sergey Ionov

I've heard talk of a 70,000 ton liner being planned after Oceanic was cancelled but seeing as the Royal Mail Line group were busy bancrupting White Star at the time, I very much doubt the ship even reached the drawing board. Who knows, maybe one day the Ulster FTMus will get their act together so we can go through the H&W archives and we'll find out once and for all. (I'm not holding my breath...)

Hello. Prompt please how many should be decks at liner RMMV Oceanic III 1928? It should have 12 decks? Either it is More? Or it is Less? And my second question: whether should be on RMMV Oceanic III 1928 a projector? Prompt please very much you I ask. Help please. Respectfully Sergey Ionov

Sergey, have you seen the photos of my 1:600 scale model of O3? I designed her with 12 decks between the water line and the bridge with another 3 below the water.

re the projector - do you mean did she have a cinema? If so I doubt anyone can help you as the plans for Oceanic have been lost by H&W.

Good evening. Thank you Big for your answer. Prompt please, and the Projector should be on RMMV Oceanic III?
Prompt please names and surnames of engineers of ship builders worked above RMMV Oceanic III? Their names and surnames were kept? I Hope for your answers. Respectfully to Vam Sergey Ionov

Good evening. Prompt please how many water-trumpet boilers should be on RMMV Oceanic III 24 Boilers? Or should be more boilers? Or there are less than boilers? Prompt please. And my second question: prompt please where the information about RMMV Oceanic III is stored? Sketches of the Smart stairs, the Arch which should be above the Smart Stairs, the Palm Court yard, Lifts, Facilities for storage of Mail, Foyer, Lusters? And who was founder RMMV Oceanic III? At RMS Olympic and RMS Titanic Thomas Andrews. At RMS Lusitania and RMS Mauretania Leonard Peskett. And at RMMV Oceanic III who the founder? I Hope for your answers. Respectfully to Vam Sergey Ionov

Sergey. Unfortunately it is very unlikely that you will be able to find the answers to your questions. Harland and Wolff destroyed all but the most basic plans about 10 years after the Oceanic III project was cancelled, and it now appears that they have also managed to lose the only existing copy of the general arrangement plan somewhere in their archives. Not only that but the White Star line archive was almost certainly destroyed by Trafalgar House (Cunard's owners) in the early 1970's.
