Cameron's Titanic cut scenes

Thanks for that Eric. When the mind goes and all that...

Kathy, I've glanced at the original screenplay once in a Waldens Bookstore. I'm not especially anxious to snap it up, but I did enjoy that scene near the end where Rose tosses the diamond over the side in front of everybody. That would have been a nice touch in the film had they done it that way.

The Cameron's Titanic Explorer contains scenes in the wireless rooms of Titanic and the Californian, where the operator is told to shut up, and thereafter switches his set off for the night. Other scenes include Captain Smith calling the lifeboats back to the ship with a megaphone (the recall being ignored) in order to load more passengers, and the balancing act of Lightoller and survivors atop the overturned collapsible. It's my understanding that these unreleased scenes are to be found in the DVD version of the movie, but I have not yet seen it in this format. Otherwise, I would suggest continued patience. It took Cameron many years between the studio release of Aliens and the release of his expanded director's cut version--which is likely a function of the studio trying to milk the maximum profit out of the extant version before redoing it.

Brandon et al,

http://www.trt.co.uk/movie.html contains a rather entertaining (albeit brief) description of some of the lost scenes from an insider's perspective. The chap who created the site played the wireless operator of the Californian, and there are a couple of pictures of him and his fellow cast members. I think I mentioned this on another thread some time ago, so apologies for any unnecessary duplication.

Hope that's of interest to someone,

Yours,

Carl

Cameron's Titanic has been out on CD for well over a year now. I see it all the time at the Suncoast Vidio at the Haywood Mall. No mentions of any additional scenes in it anywhere.

Thank you Carl for the link. I enjoyed the website. Adam says that the 1st rough cut was 5 hours long. Can you imagine??? I would love to see all the stuff that James shot!

Maybe I was thinking of a "Deluxe Edition," or something like that. The possiblities of extra scenes was brought up to me by a friend who said he had such a DVD. So much for second-hand information.

If memory serves, the CD is the deluxe version.

I wish Cameron would come out with an uncut version, but unless the market gives him and the studio one very compelling reason, to do so, it just ain't gonna happen.

I have just seen some cut scenes from Titanic Explorer, and one scene was so brilliant, I am at a loss to find out why JC cut it. It is the scene in the marconi room with Jack Phillips (cool name) and Harold Bride when the Californian sends an ice warning. Without this scene, the wireless operators are restricted to one 90 second scene. The transcript of this cut scene is as follows, enjoy!
marconi room int night bride and phillips on duty.
Phillips:...wants his private train to meet him when we dock, blahdy blah.
BRIDE HITS HIS EARPEICE
Bride Bloody Hell! Its that idiot on the californian.
Phillips: Tell him to shut up.
Bride:Right, I'll do more than that.
Californian marconi room
Operator: Arogant bastod! I just tried to warn him about the ice and he told me to shut up!
A nerby officer laughs
Operator(cont.): Well, thats it for me, I'm shutting down.
He indeed turns off the marconi device, probably spelling the end for most of Titanic.
I know I may of got some of these lines wrong, but that is the basic scene, and I've only repeated it frm memory.
all the best

Another cut scene was in lifeboat no. 6 when captain smith called them to come back to the ship for passengers to fill it.It is a very emotional scene beetween Molly Brown and a very unstable* quartermaster Hitchens.

ext night boat deck
captain smith has a megaphone in hand, an officer blows on a whistle.
Smith: Come back! Come back to the ship!
ext night lifeboat 6
molly brown: Stop! We have to go back.
Hitchens:No! It's our lifes now not theirs!
molly brown: We have lots more room, I say we go back.
Hitchens

increasingly unstable):Look, they'll swamp the boat, they'll pull us right down I'm telling ya.
ext boat deck-night
SMITH IS STILL CALLING FOR BOATS, BUT TO NO AVAIL.
Smith:The fools.
This scene was fragmented when I saw it, so again I'm telling it from my own memory, so it may not be acurate.
*apologies if this unstable discription caused any offence to anyone.

This scene is also in ANTR intact, although the script is different, the words are almost the same......I am presently saving my pennies to buy it on DVD, it's a bit pricey...part of the Criterion Collection, they are ALWAYS pricey but it's worth every penny, the movie is a classic Titanic story teller....and in my opinion, one of THE best.

Regards, Bill
