Being a great fun of Edith Wharton, i would like to say that in her memoirs that I read recently she claims that ocean travelling in such steamers (Titanic, Olympic etc) was a great event in those days. she considered such ships as an extension of the upper class living that was not to be changed even at sea. Thanks
