Laura,
the 4th funnel, for all intents and purposes, was a 'dummy' funnel. It was a vent for various places in the ship, including the galleys and the smoking room. Minute amounts of smoke and steam would have vented from the funnel, but not heavy enough to be detected by photographic imagery.

Hello Laura,

The 4th funnel was used to ventilate the engines and some of the gallieys("kitchens") below. I hope this helps.

was the fourth funnel smaller or were they all the same height the reason i ask is that the area where the forth funnel is mounted is already on the area over the 1st class smoke room i guess im just figuring that a normal person would have to bend down to enter the i guess fan rooms and the storage areas around the 4th funnel anyone know if it was shorter. also i have the academy 1/400 scale model and the 4th funnel is also shorter in that model

Do we know where this plan came from? It looks like a period magazine, due to the angles and measurements on it that fit the style, and are hard to reproduce.
