Also the water flooded up the spiral staircases according to chief fireman Charles Hendrickson (TIP | British Wreck Commissioner's Inquiry | Day 5 | Testimony of Charles Hendrickson (Leading Fireman, SS Titanic)) and fireman Thomas Threlfall (T. Threlfall, leading fireman).
Also according to lookout George Thomas Macdonald Symons (TIP | British Wreck Commissioner's Inquiry | Day 10 | Testimony of George Symons (Lookout, SS Titanic)), third officer Hebert John Pitman (TIP | United States Senate Inquiry | Day 4 | Testimony of Herbert J. Pitman, cont.) the water was also flooding up the first cargo hatch.
The water also was on E-deck during the first 45 minutes of the sinking according to able seaman John Thomas Poingdestre (TIP | British Wreck Commissioner's Inquiry | Day 4 | Testimony of John Poingdestre (Able Bodied Seaman, SS Titanic)). According to saloon steward Frederick Dent Ray the water was already up the second funnel casing (TIP | United States Senate Inquiry | Day 9 | Testimony of Frederick D. Ray (Saloon Steward, SS Titanic)) on E-deck.
Also a private letter of assistant second class saloon steward Walter Henry Nichols (owned by Samuel Halpern) in boat 15 reported around 1:45 the propellers were out of the water.
