The Forepeak Compartment

Glad to hear it.

Although there are no hatches listed, there must ave been hatches, otherwise they would have had a serious problem in a very short time if Titanic had survived. This would have been at the first 4 year Survey. Then, the anchor chains are ranged along the drydock floor. Each link is inspected and the shackle marks renewed. Sometimes. they would replace the three lengths at the anchor with the three lengths at the locker end. In that case, the bitter end lightly secured in the locker would be released and the chain removed from the locker. At the same time, the locker would be cleaned out... stray mud removed - and the internal surfaces re-coated. An access hatch or hatches to port and starboard lockers would be needed for all of that.
