What was the 3-class open space for?

It was a large enclosed space that could be used to walk in and which was fitted with tables and seats. Being fully enclosed and covered it could be used in any kind of weather.

People also mistake it for the steerage general room on C Deck aft. The open space for steerage was on forward D Deck , and I believe there was a stairwell leading to the gangway door on E Deck.

Also, who knows how it flooded? Was it from the stairwell leading to the forward well deck, or did it just come from below.
