Were there any crimes recorded

Does not give me the right spelling.

Yes, it does.

Maybe you should not look at my post if it up sets you.

This is hardly an appropriate response.

Be forewarned.

Just as a point of order, moderators don't have the option of ignoring posts. We may miss a few, by virtue of the fact that some slip through the cracks, but if we see something which is a problem, we have to deal with it.

If the spell check for the forum isn't working, you might want to either download one from a source which offers it or see if your operating system has one. I use Windows Vista and it has a spell check bundled in with the toolbar.

As to the rest, using standard grammer and punctuation serves to make it easier for others to understand your posts.

michael sir.Mods are the first on my respect list.

As for spellcheck,it allows me to see which words i spelt wrong but does not correct them at all.

With respect sir. I was trying to use the right grammer and punctuation.

My computer is Windows Vista, does that mean it's built in to my pc all ready?

It should have been bundled up with the software. If not, the Google Toolbar also has a spellcheck. In mine, it appears above as "ABC Check"

I have no idea what you just said. But i have click on I-Spell, so i see how i go in the future.

But the spell check only indicates which words are spelled incorrectly - it does not offer any alternative spellings for those who, for a variety of reasons, may not be able to spell in the first place. For example, if "the labyrinthine interior of the vessel" had contained an error, the spell check would not tell me how to spell "labyrinthine".

Stanley has a point. I'm generally a good speller, but some of my posts have errors, and I don't always have a dictionary beside me (or I fear I'll lose the connection if I open another window to get an online dictionary.) I also - Canadian curmudgeon that I am - insist on spelling words like 'honour' the way I've just typed it.

I suggest opening WORD (or whatever word processing software was put into your computer) and then cutting and pasting your message into it. The offending words would be underlined. Click them, and the software should provide the correct spelling.

If not, the dictionary.

p.s. I used WORD to correct "curmudgeon"

As an ex teacher I've had a lot of experience in deciphering the indecipherable (I might have invented that last word!) so I can generally figure out the meaning of any posting without too much trouble, though there have been one or two members who have taxed my code-breaking skills to the limit! The use of a spell checker can (with a little practice) bring about a great improvement, but there's no easy solution for people who have problems with punctuation or sentence structure. So if the message here is "improve your English or face the consequences" then it's hard to see how the consequences, whatever they might be, can be avoided. One possibility (maybe) is to slow down. Take more time over less postings. Just a thought.

Bearing in mind recent attempts by the political correctness storm troopers in the UK to remove 'Spotted Dick' from menus in favour of 'Spotted Richard' (I kid you not), look on the library shelves for a richardtionary.
