Did any passengers ever break the law?

Oh goodness Randy. "Was she being attacked by a killer giant butterfly?" You could have prewarned me NOT to be drinking a soda before you wrote that.
Why, that was her Easter dress that Phil decided to share with us today. Wonder what the hat looked like! Definatley not a Lucielle LTD. original!
Suddenly Randy's statement... "But yes she was involved in a car accident." takes on a whole new meaning once you have seen the picture........ ha ha.
I don't know if I should thank you Phil, for sharing the picture.... I will have to see if I have nightmares from it first.

Yes, Andrew, that photo isn't recommended for pre-teens. Reminds me of a Time Magazine cover a while back with a photo of Betty Friedan, Susan B. Anthony, Gloria Steinem and Calista Flockhart--they could have found nicer subjects if they'd photographed gargoyles from a gothic edifice. But don't forget, this was THE original Harrison Fisher girl. And she was a lot of other things too :-).

No, it's no good - I just don't believe it!!!!

I just can't see the angelic image which Randy has just posted on the "Dorothy Gibson" thread turning into Phil's monstrosity on this page!

Come off it, guys! Spill the beans! Which one of you cooked up this hoax??

yours,

bob "doubting Thomas" falange

Phil, you forgot to add the car accident and ugly stick to the equation of time.
I tried to trick my daughter into believing this was a long lost relative, to which, she looked in disbelief, read the caption (wrong) and said, "mom, what exactly is an Afghan scuzbus?"

Geoff wrote "looks like my kind of girl". There are a number of things that come to mind, but Colleen is selecting an iron skillet if I get out of line. Now it was mentioned something about an accident, but I didn't know it was a "transporter" accident.(see Star Trek "The Motion Picture")

This thread is fascinating. Every book that I have read seems to be misinformed when telling of Ms Cleaver. I was shocked when I read your post Phil, I had to read it again. Poor lady. Wow talk about a bad rumor. Ughh, Dorothy's picture scared me half to death, doesn't seem like the same person. Phil, what info have you got on her?

Hey Trent,
Yes it is an awful photo of Dorothy--and I have other awful ones--but I also have some of her that are not bad. In the summer of 1945, abut 8 months before she died, she had a last photo made while in Switzerland and I have it. She looks fairly attractive--though maybe a little harsh--in that one. But I don't think she was a great beauty and the woman her husband married after their divorce was certainly much more glamorous.

I've written a ten page biography on Dorothy and her mother, complete with photos and details of the trouble they got into but am not sure when or in what venue I'll submit it for publication and don't want to give out any details until it is published. Although most people think of Dorothy in terms of the "original Harrison-Fisher girl," she really wasn't a nice person--and her mother was just as bad. She had a "god-son" that I just recently found out about and he died less than a year ago, but his wife is still living. I'm hoping to find out even more details from her and so the biography may be even longer before all is said and done.

My best,
Phil

Andrew,

Phil Gowan has more info on Dorothy that will probably astound us all. But yes she was involved in a car accident. She ran over and killed a pedestrian while driving her lover Jules Brulatour's car. The resultant law suit brought out the truth of their affair but they weren't married till 1917. By standards then, Miss Dot was not a nice gal. We'll just have to wait though to find out how bad she really was.

Randy

Edith Rosenbaum (later Russell) was also involved in a car accident. The incident was in France a year before she boarded the Titanic. As a token of good luck, her mother gave her a pig music toybox which she carried on the Titanic and kept with her for the rest of her life ("... but when he threw that pig, I knew it was my mother calling me.") Interesting story.
